1951 First Turbine Powered Helicopter: Kaman K-255
In 1951, in response to a request from the US navy, Charles H. Kaman modified a Ka-225 helicopter with a turboshaft engine. The main advantages
of the turbine engine are it's large horsepower, in a small body, and its low weight compared to a piston engine. The turbine engine had a
great influence on helicopter layout and development. Turbine engines are still commonly used in helicopters today.
